Are you considering a move to the Northshore? You can’t start your home search without giving serious consideration to Covington. Covington is a unique blend like no other. A city that is over 200 years old yet feels like the new girl on the scene.

Covington has managed to resist falling into the trap of typical suburban sprawl. Located just a short drive across The Causeway Bridge north of New Orleans, it is the perfect commuter city. With proximity to New Orleans City Life, Baton Rouge and The Beaches Of The Gulf Coast its allure is easy to comprehend. Situated in St Tammany Parish and boasting one of the best school districts in the state Covington has a strong real estate market. Homes for sale in Covington are sought after and don’t last long when they come available.

When talking about Covington you have to mention The Bogue Falaya River that dissects the downtown district. There is a beautiful park and pavilion that play host to a bi-annual concert series called Sunset at the Landing. Who doesn’t want to see free live music on the riverfront with historic homes overlooking the banks of the river as the backdrop?
On the topic of downtown Covington, this is exactly why I fell it is such a fantastic place to buy a home. Historic Downtown Covington is in the midst of a renaissance. There are shops full of antiques, there are high end boutiques, art galleries, coffee houses and of course a farmers market. Recently, the business and art galleries have been having a Northshore homage to the famous New Orleans White Linen Night and opening their doors to a vibrant party as people walk the historic streets with libations in hand. It has truly become a place to see and be seen.

In addition to the boutiques and galleries of downtown there is a thriving restaurant scene emerging. Situated in an old train car sits Lola one of my favorite lunch spots, don’t worry they serve dinner also. There is Restaurant Del Porto if you fancy Italian fare. If it is a more modern approach you seek look no further than across the street to Oxlot 9 for fine dining and craft cocktails. Oxlot 9 is the anchor restaurant in the Historic Southern Hotel, which just completed a multi-million-dollar renovation and drips with charm. There is no better place to get away without ever leaving town.
If you decide to re-create some of the lovely dishes that are found at one of the many Covington restaurants, drop in to Acquistapace’s Supermarket. Trust me, it’s easier to say than spell. This local grocer offers the hard to find items that no one else will stock and one of the largest selections of wine and spirits in the state.

Covington has it all, history, elegance, charm and grace. So when you are ready to buy a house don’t make the mistake and overlook lovely Covington.
